Bringing Everyday
Amazing to Amersham
Aldi is working on exciting plans for a new store in Amersham on the site of the former Jaguar Dealership at 44 London Road West.
The new store would provide local people with easier access to our popular, high quality, great value offer. The proposal will enhance local shopping choice, reduce the need to travel and create at least 40 new jobs.
This website outlines our proposals, including details of the scheme, the next steps, and how you can get in contact with us if you have any questions. We are keen to hear your views before we finalise our plans, so please do give us your feedback.
The scheme at a glance
A 1,195sqm new Aldi store delivering Aldi’s signature low-cost, high-quality service to local shoppers
101 car parking space, including 5 parent and child bays, 4 disabled bays and 4 bays with electric charging points
Regeneration of an unused brownfield site
40 new, well-paying jobs for local people
A store which compliments rather than competes with local outlets and independent traders
An energy efficient and environmentally sustainable development
The proposals
Aldi knows its customers are currently travelling out of the Amersham area to visit its stores. It has wanted to open a local store in Amersham for some time and is delighted to have identified the former Jaguar Dealership at 44 London Road West HP7 9DD as a location. The site will be developed, using sustainable construction materials and techniques, to provide a fresh, modern, new Aldi discount food store.
This significant investment would create at least 40 new jobs, which Aldi would seek to recruit locally. The site is a disused brownfield site and will be landscaped to complement the local area. There will be 101 parking bays, parking for blue badge holders and parents and children. There will also be cycle parking and 4 electric vehicle charging points. These proposals would bring a much-needed discount food store to south Amersham, reducing the need to travel and ensuring the area has sufficient supermarket provision for its existing and future needs.
Unlike other supermarkets, Aldi is not a ‘one stop shop’. We have no in-house bakery, butcher, fishmonger, delicatessen or chemist and we do not sell items such as cigarettes. As a result, Aldi stores complement other local and independent stores which provide these goods and services and by encouraging linked trips to the town centre helps to keep spending local.
A sustainable investment in Amersham
Aldi takes its responsibilities to the community and the planet seriously. Our corporate responsibility plan is driven by 5 principles - community, people, customers, suppliers, and environment. When building our new stores we ensure they are as sustainable as possible.
We intend to go above and beyond Building Regulations and achieve significant CO2 reductions on the site. We will recover waste heat generated by the refrigeration system and re-use it to provide heat to the building.
We always seek to source local produce which reduces the miles travelled from field to plate and benefits local suppliers.
As well as creating 40 jobs, Aldi’s rates of pay are higher than the Government’s National Living Wage, and above the Living Wage Foundation’s recommended national rates.
